Dear College Park Resident:
Edgewater Drive is a unique community and citywide asset that has evolved over the past half century. In order to protect this asset and guide development in the future, the City of Orlando’s Planning Division will embark a on a strategic review of the Edgewater Drive corridor. We anticipate that this will be a positive process that will involve our community to create a vision to help shape future development along Edgewater Drive. This process, which is focused around community input, will include the following components:
· Interviews of stakeholder groups, to identify early those issues surrounding quality development and the future atmosphere of Edgewater Drive.
· An on-line survey for the Community to input early feedback on the issues surrounding Edgewater Drive.
· Meetings of the community and property owners to allow early feedback from the Community at large. This collaborative process will include group-walking tours of Edgewater Drive that will aid in identifying issues and solutions.
A Task Force will be selected through a nomination process, where candidates will be considered for their background and expertise on development issues and relationship to Edgewater Drive. This Task Force will meet bi-monthly and consider major subjects, such as Urban Form, Transportation, Pedestrian Friendliness, and potential Design Guidelines.
Due to the complexity of completing such a large project that could potentially impact development of Edgewater Drive for years to come, we anticipate the Community Meeting and Task Force process to begin this Fall, but I wanted to let our College Park residents know about this process ahead of time so that we can all be thinking about our visions for Edgewater Drive as we drive, dine and shop in this area throughout the summer months. As we work toward finalizing this planning process, please feel free to contact my office with your thoughts and ideas, and look for more information to be distributed later this summer.
We are excited about bringing the community together and creating a vision for this important asset for years to come.
And it is also good to note that as a graduate of Edgewater High School and a resident of College Park for more than 50 years, the Orange County School Board has voted to build the new EHS in the school’s current location. This institution is definitely an asset to our community and to Edgewater Drive bolstered so much by the support of you, the residents of College Park. I am excited for the future of our community high school as it remains an important part of the Edgewater Drive corridor.
Since summer is already in full swing, keep in mind that we need to work together to keep our children safe this summer. Please utilize the resources of our College Park Community Center, located at 2393 Elizabeth Avenue. Also, the summer tends to bring with it a rise in juvenile crime, so please stay informed and aware about crime prevention measures. If you are not already, please consider getting involved in the City¹s Neighborhood Watch Program. To find out if your block already has a Neighborhood Watch or to find out how you can start one on your street, please call the Orlando Police Department¹s Neighborhood Watch coordinator at 407-246-2369. I am proud to say that College Park is a leader in working together through Neighborhood Watch to help make our community safer for all of us.
Have a great summer and I look forward to continuing to work with you to make College Park an even better place to live, work and play!
Sincerely,
Robert
