On Monday, October 24, 2005, Orlando City Council approved several matters that may interest you. The year may be nearly closed, and, we have only two city council meetings remaining for this year. However, we are still considering important matters. Under our Economic Development Division, we approved a right of way agreement for a high rise development for GDC Holdings at the corner of Marks Street and N. Orange Avenue. We also awarded a $2,000 grant to our Orlando Antique District Merchants to support their holiday festivities. The Park/Lake Highland neighborhood can take comfort in knowing that we accepted a resolution and plan for OUC and Orlando to work together to cleanup and to develop certain contaminated property at the corner of Brook Haven and Ferris Avenue. The resolution includes neighborhood participation in the request for both the proposal process and the selection of a developer. Our Economic Development Division also brought forwarded Advanced Laser Systems Technology, Inc. as a Qualified Targeted Business bringing high paying jobs to our city. This business will be located at the commercial plaza at the corner of Highway 441 and Princeton Street.
In addition, our Transportation Engineering Division negotiated with the Florida Department of Transportation pedestrian count down signals on arterial roads at the following intersections: Marks Street and Mills Avenue, Lake Highland Drive and Mills Avenue, Orange Avenue and Rollins Street, Orange Avenue and King Street, Orange Avenue and Winter Park Street, Alden Road and Princeton Street, Edgewater Drive and Princeton Street, Edgewater Drive and Smith Street, and Edgewater Drive and Hazel Street.
On October 23, 2005, Mayor Buddy Dyer and I attended the kick off celebration of Florida Hospital's expansion. The event was well attended with many people having a great interest in making sure that our medical facilities grow at the same pace as our population. Florida Hospital will complete their project in 2008.
Please mark your calendar to participate in our grand opening of our College Park Community Center on November 2, 2005, at 8:30 a.m. If you enjoy Orlando history, you will appreciate the restored frescos which were formerly located at our Dubsdread Restaurant at our historic public golf course. They had been sitting in our basement at City Hall for years. I made a special effort to restore and to place them in a highly visible facility in our community. Please make an attempt to admire this piece of our history.
